High School Students Save Lives in November!
Thank you to all the schools who hosted blood drives last month. You donated 432 units of blood that helped save the lives of local hopstial patients. Click here to see blood drive results. Click here to see photos from the blood drives. We need your photos! If you have good photos taken at your blood drive, please send them to schoolbloodprogram@bbd.org. Blood Drop tip
: Ask your Yearbook Club to cover your blood drive. Brandywine High School dedicates a full page in their yearbook each year to their fall blood drive. It is a great way to let the entire school know how important it is to support the community blood supply.
Do you have a story to tell?
Have you ever needed a blood transfusion? Has someone close to you needed blood? If you know someone who is willing to share their story, please contact Lauren Bacon at lbacon@bbd.org. It's a great way to let people know who they may be helping when they give blood.
The Gift of Life
Sometimes the best presents are not wrapped in paper and ribbon. As the holiday season approaches, encourage your friends, teachers and parents to give a great gift- the gift of life. In only an hour, a blood donor can save up to three people's lives. (Blood can be separated into three component parts.) They can also earn your school additional points by filling out a Hero Card each time they give blood. Every donation counts towards your school's blood drive! The school with the Most Hero Donors will receive a special award at next year's awards luncheon.
UD has a Heart!
The Blood Bank's largest blood drive of the year took place on November 15th at the University of Delaware. The Colonial Athletic Association "Have a Heart Blood Challenge" is a competition between the 12 colleges and universities in the CAA. Each school holds a one-day blood drive to see who can recruit the most blood donors. UD has won the challenge the past four years. Last year, almost 600 people rolled up their sleeves to save lives. Results from the 2006 Challenge will be announced later this month. Many donors said they first donated at their high school blood drives. We're thrilled that they continue to give blood after they graduate from high school, and we hope your fellow students will too! Click here for more photos from the blood drive.
