Everyone who donates blood in January will get a free "Got Blood?" window cling as a special thank you. Win $50!
Recruiting blood donors can be a challenge, so get creative when you are spreading the word about your school's blood drive. Middletown High School created a great poster filled with facts about blood and blood donation, as well as their blood drive goal.
Share with others! Send your creative recruitment ideas to schoolbloodprogram@bbd.org. The student with the winning idea will receive a $50 Visa gift card. All creative ideas will be posted on our website.
Who Needs Blood?
Before we reach the age of 72, 95% of us will need blood or a blood product.
- Accident victims use 4-100 units of red blood cells.
- Someone undergoing cancer treatment uses 2-6 units of red blood cells and 6-8 units of platelets daily for 2-4 weeks.
- Patients with sickle cell disease need periodic transfusions of 10-15 units of red blood cells to treat complications.
All of these patients rely on ordinary people to give them the lifesaving blood they need to survive. Give Blood, and encourage your peers to Give Blood by letting them know they'll make a real difference in the lives of others.
