Special Guest Stars
The William Penn High School Marching Band drummed up excitement at the Blood Bank's Paint the Town Red event in Wilmington on October 31. The Colonials entertained the crowd by parading down Market Street and performing in front of the Blood Bank's donor center. They also helped to kick off the Blood Bank's Wilmington Center promotion. William Penn was the New Castle County winning high school last school year, with 224 donors.

The Perfect Gift
The perfect gift may not always be wrapped with pretty paper and bows. The perfect gift is a blood donation. In about an hour, a blood donor can help save up to three lives and every donation counts towards your school's blood donation points! Remind donors to fill out a Hero Card each time they give blood. The school with the most Hero Donors will receive a special award at next year's awards luncheon.
Encourage your friends, teachers, and parents to give the gift of life this holiday season. Call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8 to schedule an appointment.
CAA Blood Challenge at UD
The Blood Bank's largest blood drive of the year took place on November 14 at the University of Delaware. The Colonial Athletic Association "Have a Heart Blood Challenge" is a competition between the 12 colleges and universities in the CAA. Each school holds a one-day blood drive to see who can recruit the most blood donors. UD won the challenge four years in a row, from 2002-2006, and was narrowly defeated by Drexel University last year. In 2006, over 700 donors rolled up their sleeves to save lives. Results from the 2007 Challenge will be announced later this month.
Many UD donors said they first donated at their high school blood drives. We hope that you and your fellow students will do the same and make donating blood a habit that lasts a lifetime.
